Overview

Using a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) is like getting a discount on everyday health and/or dependent care expenses because you’re paying with tax-free money. There are separate FSAs for health care and dependent care.

Health Care FSA

Available to team members who do NOT enroll in the $3,200 PPO HDHP with HSA

  • Contribute up to $3,050 in 2023 through pre-tax payroll deductions to help cover eligible medical, vision, and dental expenses, such as copays, deductibles, orthodontia, prescriptions, etc.
  • Choose your contribution amount when you enroll as a new team member or during Open Enrollment. You can only change your contribution amount during the year if your personal situation changes.
  • Your annual contribution will be divided into equal deductions from each paycheck. Your entire annual contribution amount is available to you on your benefits effective date.
  • Spend your money by using your FSA debit card*, or log in to the MM365+ FSA website to request reimbursement for payments you’ve made. Be sure to keep your receipts in case of the need to substantiate your purchase.
  • Up to $610 of unused money may be carried over to the next year; amounts above $610 will be forfeited, so be sure to estimate your contribution carefully! (Keep in mind that if you leave the company, you will lose any remaining balance unless you elect COBRA. If you have used more than you have contributed for the plan year at the time of your termination, you won’t have the option to elect COBRA.)

*NOTE: You’ll receive only one debit card to use for all of your Mercer Marketplace 365+ supported accounts. You can request additional cards via the MM365+ FSA website.

Dependent Care FSA

Available to all team members

  • Contribute up to $5,000 annually through pre-tax payroll deductions to help cover your eligible dependent care expenses, including child and elder care while you are at work, such as day care, nursery school, elder care, etc.
  • Log in to the MM365+ FSA website to request reimbursement for payments you’ve made.
  • Choose your contribution amount when you enroll as a new team member or during Open Enrollment. You can only change your contribution amount during the year if your personal situation changes.
  • Your annual contribution will be divided into equal deductions from each paycheck. You only have access to money that has actually been deposited into your account.
  • Unused money does not carry over at the end of each year — use it or lose it. Be sure to estimate your contribution carefully!

Keep in mind: You must actively re-enroll in FSAs each year. You are not automatically re-enrolled.

FSA Savings Calculator

FSAs are a great way to save money on out-of-pocket medical expenses. By using pre-tax dollars, individuals can save an average of 30% on eligible medical, pharmaceutical, dental, and eye care costs! The exact amount you can save depends on your income tax rate.

Because of this significant savings opportunity, deciding to participate in an FSA is easy. But it can be harder to decide how much money to contribute. Remember: Up to $610 of unused money may be carried over to the next year; amounts above $610 will be forfeited, so it’s important to estimate your contribution carefully!

The FSA calculator can help! This handy online tool will help you estimate how much you can save in reduced income taxes with an FSA.
